The pickup truck, commonly known as the “farmer truck,” is a familiar sight on the streets, though it remains a minority in the Hong Kong market, with limited options available. However, JAC, a well-known manufacturer of commercial vehicles in China, has seized the opportunity to introduce its T8EV all-electric pickup to Hong Kong, offering users more choices beyond traditional diesel vehicles.

As a practical pickup truck, the T8EV’s design and cabin configuration are both focused on utility, with no unnecessary frills. Its appearance is slightly more elevated compared to its competitors in the same class. The T8EV is equipped with modern features such as LED daytime running lights, a touch-screen audio system, an LCD instrument panel, and a multifunction steering wheel. Additionally, the truck’s doors are equipped with footrests for easy entry and exit. The spacious cabin, coupled with soft-touch front and rear seats, provides a comfortable experience, though the rear suspension with leaf springs can create a bit of bounce for passengers in the back. Fortunately, this is within an acceptable level. The cargo bed measures approximately 1.5 meters by 1.5 meters, similar in size to most other commercial pickups, but it benefits from the absence of side and roof limitations, making it easier to load and unload cargo. Due to legal regulations, the rear window is fitted with a cargo barrier, which partially obstructs the central rearview mirror.

The T8EV’s powertrain features a rear-mounted electric motor that delivers 201 horsepower and 295 Nm of torque. While its torque may not match that of a typical 2.5-liter diesel turbocharged engine, the instant power delivery characteristic of electric vehicles makes up for it. With a 65.3 kWh lithium battery, the T8EV offers a driving range of 330 kilometers (NEDC). Charging-wise, the Hong Kong version is equipped with a CCS2 socket and supports 50 kW DC fast charging, which can charge from 20% to 80% in about an hour.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the local distributor is offering a limited-time promotion for the T8EV at a price of HK$298,000. However, the offer is limited, so interested buyers should act quickly.
